Let me take a shot at it (no pun intended!)

1. weld in a patch panel
2. replace the door skin
3. replace the door
or
4. cut off the VIN, drive another truck under it, and re-rivet the VIN. [img]/ubbthreads/images/icons/wink.gif[/img]

Seriously, if you are concerned about a patch panel, replace either the door skin or the entire door.
