A very dull and oily wire wheel brass or steel VERY light touch. The worn wheel wont scratch it (start with a fine grade wheel) and the oil in the wheel leaves a natural patina to it.
NOTE: oil and dirt from dirty parts on the wheel work best. I keep one wire wheel in the shop for initial clean up of hardware and it stays with a fresh coat of oil/dirt to do the trick. |
