With all the talk of Rotella vs. other brand oils this question came up offline. I am running Mobil 1 in my Z. I was under the impression that once you run synthetic it is not recommended you go back to non-synth. Can I do this?
Looking for opinions/advice. ![]()

I've switched to synthetic for easier winter starting and back to regular oil for summer with no problems. I believe that all oils are designed to be compatible unlike some antifreeze products.

Looking for opinions/advice.>> Yes, you can switch from the superior performing synthetic oil to the lower performing dead dinosaur lube with no, "problems", other than reduced fuel economy, reduced performance, higher engine operating temperatures, harder winter starts, increased engine wear and higher maintenance costs. But, why would you even *want* to do this? ![]() Steve 17 Year Independent AMSOIL Synthetic Lubricants Dealer www.lubedealer.com/HiTechOilCo |

Hi Keith. Some other benefits of a good synthetic oil include reduced sludge build up/an internally cleaner engine, superior high temperature engine protection, improved performance, reduced engine wear, lower engine operating temperatures, improved fuel economy and still other benefits. If you want the best for your vehicle, I'd recommend using a good synthetic oil year round. ![]() Steve 17 Year Independent AMSOIL Synthetic Lubricants Dealer www.lubedealer.com/HiTechOilCo |

[/ QUOTE ] Darren, you'll be fine but why go back to regular Dino oil? A quality full Synthetic is far superior to anything that comes out of the ground. I've been using Amsoil and Mobil 1 in all my vehicles for years. My used oil analysis show that the stuff works. Visit www.BOBISTHEOILGUY.com for more good info.

The scoop seems to be that Rotella-T has the most zinc and other additives that are good for the engine. It seems that some of the other petroleum based oils removed some of these additives. Maybe because of the catalytic converters?

<< With synthetic oil how often do you do oil changes
Peter >> Hi Peter. The vast majority of synthetic oils on the market only recommend standard drain intervals, i.e. the intervals recommended in the owners manual of a vehicle. Going further than what the oil manufacturer recommends can cause premature engine wear/damage. With AMSOIL Synthetic Motor Oil, recommended drain intervals are up to 35,000 miles. You can visit my web site below for more information. ![]() Steve 17 Year Independent AMSOIL Synthetic Lubricants Dealer www.lubedealer.com/HiTechOilCo <--Free catalogue |
