Default 1970 L-78 Camaro CKO block

I'm looking at buying a 70 L-78 Camaro from a friend who has had the car for 10 -20 years. It has been in his garage ever since he bought it and he calls it in rough condition. I've seen much worse in fact my 70 Z started in worse condition before the resto.

I've gone through all the numbers and date codes match (M-21 trans with vin, dist, alt, heads, rear, exhaust manifolds, intake, water pump, intake and starter. It even has the COPO 3 peice spoiler.

My question is the engine block has a CKO code. From what I've researched so far the L-78's with a manual trans were coded with a CJH. I see that CKO is for a 396 with mt but doesn't specify a L-78. Would they have used the CKO block for a L-78? I haven't been able to find the vin on the block yet.

He is pulling all the documentation that he has for the car and he states that he has the POP but no build sheet. I hope to see the documentation soon and see what is there.

Also, any recommendations on what esle I should look for?

He didn't mention it and I didn't see it laying around. I do have an extra one that I got when I was buying parts for my 70 Z. Also it has the correct carb.

The block casting is 3969854 and the date is J-18-9. The date seems early so that was going to be my next question.

Thanks again.
