I plan on converting the L72 68 Camaro from a Turbo 400 to either a Muncie or a Richmond 5 speed. First there is nothing numbers matching about the car. I have a spare M21 and I have a complete Richmond setup with shifter and driveshaft to work with it. Anybody have any experience with the Richmond? Or opinions? It is really just a street car.

I would imagine your Richmond 4+1 has the 3.27:1 1st gear? Using it, you'll probably have to change the differential gears to utilize its potential.

Bill, A lot depends on your rear end ratio, what is it??? I've set up alot of Nash/Richmond 5-speed cars and rebuild a lot of Nash/Richmond 5&6 speeds... E-mail me for my phone number, as its toooo complicated for E-mail... Crash
Dong Nash sold out to Richmond in the late 1980's early 90's after the 4+3 debacle with GM, and the factory burning down...Crash |

I am running 3.90's with a 28" tall tire currently. And, yes it is the 3.27 first gear trans. I am thinking that 3.23 or 3.55 would be best for the 5 speed and possibly even 4.56's with M-21. This is just a car that doesn't get used nearly enough and will never see a highway trip. Thanks for the help.

Hey Bill,
Sorry for the delay but, Crash answered your question. The 3.90's will be geared too low. I using a 3.42:1, 28" tires with a 3.27:1 1st gear Richmond 6 speed. I would not want my car geared any lower. Regards, Jody
