Re: Has anyone seen this website??
We talked about this resto about a year ago or so, and I was curious then (and now) why they didn't replace the driver's side door? I think they re-used the original door, with all those holes in the inner structure. I know you can't see them once the door panel is on, but I'm sure somebody will pay a lot of money for a car with a door full of holes

Marlin:
That's one of those unpspoken "tricks" for the Pure Stock races...aren't your doors already done?! I wonder what that door sounds like when it shuts? |

Re: Has anyone seen this website??
I didn't know this was discussed before. I am fairly new here.
With the talk of rebody and panel changing I thought this was a good example. He wanted 175k for the car, but after looking at what was done not sure if I would want to pay that kind of cake, even though it looks like a fantastic resto. You get half of a original ZL-1. Wonder how many more are done like this. Thoughts?? |

Do a search for 69zl1.com, and you will turn up some threads with bits and pieces about the car. Lots of cool pictures on that site!

Re: Has anyone seen this website??
It's been a quiet week, so it's worth discussing again - rule #1 must be working
I was amazed that they went through all that work to graft the back/bottom half of the car on, but didn't relace that door with a southwest unit The floor work looks good to me, must have been a lot of work. And, I guess they would have had to use the floor from another dual exhaust Camaro to get the hanger plates on both frame rails. I'm certainly no ZL1 expert, but the car looked really nice in the final photos, dusk blue is one of my favorite colors.

Re: Has anyone seen this website??
I am actually here at the shop this morning. Steve said the owner wanted to leave the original door on the car and not replace or repair the "drilled" out door. So there you have it.....it was the owners decision.
FYI..This car was listed for sale (on this site) on New Years Day at 275k and sold in less than 3 hours. |

Re: Has anyone seen this website??
Dennis;
Any idea why? Maybe he wanted to keep a little of the 'old race' heritage? I know of two other ZL1's from PA that were mini-tubbed. I know of another one that dropped a valve, ruining the block. The first 4 replacement blocks that were shipped to Penske Chev. never made it into the car because they were stolen. The 5th block finally made it into the engine bay, only to have the entire car stolen two weeks later The owner just parked it in front of his house in suburban Philadelphia, poof, gone, what a bummer!

Re: Has anyone seen this website??
The Dual exhaust specific hanger plate/reinforcement (welded to the frame rail) is only specific to one side (drivers)of a Camaro, and exact die cut reproduction plates have been/are available to weld to any frame rail.

Re: Has anyone seen this website??
No one would know the doors were lightened. But of course if you brought it to a show and you caught someone taking the door panel off..
