Default Hauser Chevrolet - 1969 ZL1 ad

Hi guys, this is my first post, but I've been reading for a while now. I've come across some intresting stuff that was sent to me a while back from a fella over at Team Chevelle. What I'm currentely intersted in is a copy of 2 news paper ads from Hauser Chevrolet, Bethlehem, Pa.

I thought this may interest you guys and that maybe you would know what happened to this/these ZL1(s). Here is they way the first ad reads

'69 Camaro - Coupe, High Performance 427 Aluminium Engine Stock #2300 - List $7384 - Now $6355

The second ad (possible a differnt car????)

Camaro Spt. Cpe. - Aluminium 427cid Power disc brakes, 4-speed close ratio, White lettered tires, Tachometer, High Performance unit Stock #2248 List - $7344 Sale $5700

The second ad is "Lincolns Birthday Sale!" the first ad doesn't have a date or any other time distinguishing features.

Anyways, here you are guys

In the late '80s a business I was associated with acquired ZL1 #4 N608214, a silver automatic. The car was restored in 1990, sold in 1995, and remains in a private collection in Milwaukee.

Ed Cunneen & Bill Porterfield provided info but we could not locate the history of the car prior to 1979. We bought it in Idaho, it was brought there on an Arizona title. Gibb had sent it back to Chevrolet May 1969.

Ed was recently contacted by the original owner who stated he bought it from Hauser.

I would be interested in obtaining a copy of the ad.

Dealer stock numbers are one of the key factors to traking vehicle inventory. Based on the two seperate stock numbers I would say that they had at least two ZL1s for sale.

Dan P. did the digging in Bethlehem, PA and uncovered the story - then the advertisements. Ed had those cars listed as sold out of AZ or NM, but I think he has changed them to Hauser. I believe they were raced pretty hard in the ABE area of PA.

Okay, update

I have been emailing with that guy that sent me the ads and he informs me that the car, Stock #2248 was infact a different car. He also tells me that "Second is a BLUE 4spd car with REAR DISC BRAKES and has not been found. Notice tach, none of these first 50 cars had tach, this car was real special and has yet to be found!!!" "If this has the rear disc, which I believe it did because I know the person personaly who saw the window sticker back then and everything he told me was true so far, then as rare as this car would be,very few would know about it!!"

So, what do you guys think, could this car exist, a JL8 ZL1?

Oh, the ad that this appears in the "Lincoln's Birthday Sale", is from Feburary 1970 and the other ad, for the ZL1 #4 is from August 1969.

Thanks guys

I talked to Dan about this last year. Interesting information he dug up. My only comment about a ZL1 having the JL8 setup would be that the listing price would need to be $500 higher than the other ZL1, wouldn't it? That would still be a special car if it's real and it exists though.

I believe at least one of the two prototype "street" ZL1s had 4 wheel disk brakes. Not sure if they escaped from the factory unharmed though.

As a used car dealer, I would have to think there was a distinct difference in the condition/mileage on the two cars to justify the price difference. The first car was probably nicer/lower mileage. Back then the JL8 was not that expensive an upgrade. My .02 cents.

Sorry, this was a new car ad and these would have been brand new ZL1's.

Well that explains the price difference. A new 69 still around in Feb 70. They wanted to dump it and were ready to take a loss or no profit deal.
