Default 1970 M22 question

My friends and I got an M22 from an estate sale and had it all rebuilt. We were told it had come out of a 1970 Chevelle. There is an L in the partial VIN which indicates the LOS/Van Nuys plant. The partial VIN has some 7s in it that are a different font than the other numbers. Are there any 1970 Chevelle experts here that can fill me in as to whether this is an anomaly seen on other Chevelle (or Camaro) transmissions from the Van Nuys plant? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

More pics. Are the 7s supposed to be 1s?

I am no expert but I do have a fairly extensive database. The photo is not the best but to answer your question, I have issues. In one photo it appears to show 79L778481 while the second photo appears to show 70L778481. Obviously 10L178481 would be the actual correct VIN and likely just the angle and lighting that make it appear differently. I have several Van Nuys stampings in my database from inspections and submissions, and have several with larger than the other stamps of L, 5 and 7's. This seems to be somewhat common. However, I have never seen a 4 like the sample you show. I do not like this stamping from what I am seeing. I am sure Chris White can add even more to this discussion.

With that large output, it is Chevelle 454 only for 1970. Camaro and other non 454 applications would have the smaller 1969 and earlier output shaft and tailhousing.

Thanks Rick and Jason. I appreciate the feedback. My friend reached out to Chris White a couple of days ago but has not yet heard back. If this belongs to a car that is still around it would be nice to see about reuniting the two, but I'm not sure that's possible. I have asked for better focused pics of the VIN stamps.
