			Hi Folks,

I’m getting started on painting my 68 GTO. It has the original hood on it which had the old hood bend with a stiff hood hinge. Only on the driver’s side. It was repaired, but poorly at that. It is a rust free hood and a sheet metal friend says he can fix it. Just not sure how much time to do so. I’m wondering if anyone on this forum has used a reproduction hood and if so, did it require modifications? It’s just a consideration at this point. If anyone has any experience with these repop hoods. Please let me know. Thanks in advance. Phil Woj. |

The reproduction hoods are good. Especially for a 1968. The reproduction hoods are based off of a 1968 hood so the underside bracing is correct. The main difference you may notice is the shape of the spot welds.

If you are using a reproduction hood on a 1969 or 1970, it will need significant work to the underside bracing to be correct and not damage the fan shroud. |

Idk about the 68 GTO hood but the 69 bird hoods are trash! Not even close if you know what you’re looking at.

If it’s a rare car I wouldn’t use a repro hood. There are plenty of originals to be found. If you decide you need an original let me know and I’ll Ask around I’m sure I could find you one All depends how rare the car is , if it’s a RAII car I wouldn’t ever consider the repro. If it’s a garden variety driver then sure use a repro |
