“Over the last couple of years I've seen, owned and sold many outstanding vintage coin-operated children's rides. This 1950's Lone Ranger Silver and Tonto Scout horse ride is by far the rarest and most detailed example. This ultimate display and conversation piece is a must have item!” – Marc Schiliro
This magnificent 1955 Lone Ranger Silver and Tonto Scout Horse themed Coin-Operated Children's Ride is truly unbelievable. This 1950's vintage coin-operated children's ride is rare because it features two side by side big body horses. These horses are original exhibit supply pieces that were offered by Bronco Sales located in Chicago, Illinois. The company marketed them as The Lone Ranger Dude Ranch with a Lone Ranger or Tonto horse. The Lone Ranger is a fictional masked former Texas Ranger who fought outlaws in the American Old West with his Native American friend Tonto. Silver is the Long Rangers great extreme stallion that was named by Tonto who once remarked that the horse's coat looked like silver. Scout is Tonto's great horse that he referred to as the “Paint Horse”. The Lone Ranger appeared in 1933 in a radio show and proved to be a hit. It spawned a series of books, a popular television show that ran from 1949 to 1957, comic books and several films. The character has been called an enduring icon of American culture. This one-of-a-kind example was designed and restored by expert Jeff Russell of Big Boy Toys located in Oklahoma. Jeff is responsible for coming up with the genius idea of putting the two full body horses side by side with one larger base. This is the only one of its kind! It was completed and purchased by MS CLASSIC CARS in September of 2024. December of 2024 is the first time it's been listed for sale.
The authentic full body horses are finished with great attention to detail throughout. The original fiberglass molds were stripped, prepped and painted. Each horse was finished with automotive grade paint which requiring air brushing for the realistic appearance. The paint work is high show quality. The paintwork was detailed to a brilliant shine by the team at MS CLASSIC CARS.
The Lone Ranger's horse “Silver” is a beautiful shade of white with silver accents. The inside of the ears, eyes and nose were airbrushed black. The hoofs were painted black. A new coin-mechanism piece was added to the neck along with a 10 cent red decal. This new coin-mechanism was setup so it operates by pushing the release piece so no coin is needed. The
horse was outfitted with a new black western saddle and halter that's decorated with silver.
Tonto's horse “Scout” is a beautiful shade of brown and white. The inside of the ears, eyes and nose were airbrushed black. The hoofs were painted black. The horse was outfitted with a new brown western saddle and halter that's decorated with silver. The saddle was also decorated with blue and orange stitched designs.
The custom fiberglass base was fabricated to accommodate the two Carousel International mechanisms and poles which are painted black. The base was prepped and painted in the beautiful shade of teal green. A custom made decal of The Lone Ranger riding Silver with the words “Hi-Yo Silver Away” and Tonto riding Scout with the words “Whoa Kemosabe” was applied to the front. It was clear coated for a realistic appearance. A custom made decal of Tonto and Scout with the words “Ride Tonto Scout and 10 cents” was applied to the side next to Scout. A custom made decal of The Lone Ranger and Silver with the words “Ride The Lone Ranger Silver and 10 cents” was applied to the side next to Silver. Both decals were also clear coated for a realistic appearance. The bottom of the base was decorated with western leather fringe. A new sound box was added to the ride which plays music, horse sounds and the voice of The Lone Ranger from the television show. A new 110 volt power cord was also added.
