Sure, it's a bit of a mess, but I have seen WAY worse for $6k. Has to be a Super Sport, at least it's highly likely to be, given the round dash, bench seat 4-speed hump, cowl hood with orig paint, orig SS emblems, F41 front stabilizer bar, etc.

Cool project and there aren't a lot of halfway decent Chevelles available anymore at this price point. Link to 1971 Chevelle auction 136371K104657 |

Any idea which engine it came with? If its got a 10 bolt that would only leave one option a 350/245hp L65. Am I correct?

If it’s a real SS and the 10-bolt is original to the car, then yes it could only be an L65. The only problem I see is what looks to be an original paint ZL2 hood which was only available on big block optioned SS cars in 1971-72 so it was either added a long time ago or the 12-bolt was swapped out. I wonder if it has a BB steering shaft, the pic doesn’t show the important end.

The L on the trim tag is a good indicator that the car is a real SS and the B next to it is for black D88 stripes.

Not that it means much but aren't those small block power steering pump brackets ?

If the car has a factory tach, it would tell you if the car was originally a SB or BB, 5000 vs. 5500 redline.
