Ive got new shackle plates from heartbeat they are zinc plated, can you guys tell me if there suppose to be painted black ? Ive got jerry's book and ive been following it, not sure why I'm questioning this part since jerrys book says it should be black. I think its because of the plated surface. appreciate the help

Black lacquer dipped, like most all vendor supplied parts. You will not always find the correct answere in a book, best to ask guys who restore and have made observations from many cars and many years.

Rough them up before you apply the paint. It will stick better over the plating.

Soak them a short time in evaporust or similar solution.

That will remove the zinc, paint will not adhere to zinc type plating.

You need to contact the 1st lady. I've been informed, that is her garage. After 45 yrs of blissful marriage, she can park, and quilt in it all she wants. :-)
