Default longer than stock lug studs/bolts

I need slightly longer than stock lug studs for my 68 El Camino. I bought a set of 20 from RockAuto, but there was no way those were fitting in the factory holes. I believe the factory serrated shoulder is about .462. The replacements were almost 1/2 an inch.

Dorman lists several, but the specs are .472, and I don't think an ADDITIONAL .010 interference fit (the old ones are tight as is) is going to work.

Surely I don't have to drill out the old holes to fit new studs.????

Thanks for any help.

Lynn
