Default dipsticks..

Trying to sort out some dipsticks...I see references to 'salmon colored' tips. These 2 seem to be a light reddish color...not sure what they are for.

One has the flat handle the other is round...I have the tubes as well.

Any help is welcome.

I've seen some with part numbers stamped in them. Anything on these?

I did some detective work today regarding dipsticks. I checked the ones in or survivor BB cars...both flat handle/yellow tip. I compared them to some others I have...and all though the imprint was slightly different they were the same length. That brings us to the dipstick tube...

I have 2 tubes that appear to be correct...but, I have a question. Does the dipstick extend past the end of the tube or does it just about come to the end?? I see a small hole in the tube...I assume this is for oil to come out if it's too full?? It would make sense to me that the dipstick would be totally inside the tube and the oil level would come up inside to allow for measurement??

**one of the dipstick tubes has an imprint on the flange that bolts to the motor..it looks like the letter J with a P attached..

thanks...wilma

The original tubes I have had have the JP stamping on the attaching bracket.

Tom if memory serves me, which sometimes it does. The red tip dipstick is for 71-74 Corvette Big Blocks. Also might include 70 don't remember for sure haven't looked into it for a while. But the one with the indent on the handle is a later GM reissue / reproduction. Hope this helps
