I finally decided to have this engine done as I realized I would never get to doing a ZL1 clone as originally planned. I bought the block and heads several years ago from a guy in the Portland, Oregon area that had used it in a sand rail. He broke a rod and put the engine away for a long time. There was some minor interior cosmetic damage but the exterior of the block remains in original outstanding condition.
The block has a small pad on the lower left side that has a date code of 2 14 69 and the number 153. The casting number is the correct 052. The 074 heads are dated 1973. I have $7K into the rebuild with the receipts showing the work that was done. The crank is a 7115, GM rods, new sleeves with standard bore TRW pistons, NOS 180 camshaft. The block had already been decked when I bought and I had it cleaned again so there are no numbers on the pad. The motor dynoed out at 444 horsepower and 454 pounds of torque with an incorrect carb and ignition system. The long block comes with a mint 198 intake, a correct unrestored 418 starter, and a complete and correct transistor ignition distributor and components. $27,500 Call 760-802-9376 for more details.
