Default 69 COPO M22 Transmission?

I am pretty new to this site, but I figured someone would have an answer. A friend of mine has a M22 transmission that still has the little metal tag on the sidecover bolt, that according to his research and from a National Chevelle Newsletter indicates that it is a 1969 COPO M22, not sure if its for a camaro or chevelle or if there is a difference. I personally haven't seen the numbers on the tag, but I have seen the transmission. There is no VIN number on this transmission. Does this sound possible? I was cosidering purchasing this transmission, although I don't have a COPO to put it in. Any idea as to what it would be worth if it were to be a real COPO M22.

There is no difference between a "regular" M22 and a COPO M22 whatsoever. All 1969 M22s are the same. Yes its possible there is no vin stamp anywhere. It was common that some transmissions had no vin but still had an assembly stamp (if it even has one at all).

Even if the Copo trans decode is true it doesn't mean the car it came from was an L72 car as being a '69 it could've been any motor but equipped w/ Copo 9511 rear axle?
Note the trans designation on this '69 'Vette tank sheet we looked at here a few months back.

What is the tag number?
Does the trans have a production date code? If so, what is it?

The more info you give, the more info you get.

I took a better look at the M22, and I found some numbers on it that the owner somehow missed.
The metal tag on the sidecover bolt is 3950318. Casting number on main case is 3925660. On the
right hand side front main case is P9E08C with A38413 below it and CT9. I presume one of these numbers would be the partial VIN. Thanks to those that replied.

The CT9 designates it as a warranty replacement transmission that was built in 1969. I would guess it's worth anywhere from $1500-$2500. PM me if you want to sell!

Not sure if I purchase it that I will sell it. I was going to mate it to my 512 4 bolt short block. It is kind of a mystery to me also. Date K-19-8, Pad# TI207LR which denotes 69 Corvette 435hp with tri power. No VIN on pad or by the oil filter either. Have acquired one 840 head for it dated L-4-8 but need to find another another but wasn't sure if the blocks are cast before or after the heads.

That tag would be correct for an M22 in any of the following:

1969 IMPALA, CHEVELLE, CAMARO L78, or L89, COPO L72, Z28

not sure why Nova's aren't on that list, as I would expect it to also be there.

I know in 1970 the M22 was unavailable in a Nova. 69 I'm not sure.
