Clarity of the photo is not adequate to determine broaching authenticity. Partial VIN from what I can detect is not correct. "7" should be an alpha character for the plant that the car was assembled ad there should be 2 more numbers preceding this.

Hey Sam
Actually this is done in the correct way for Corvettes. They did not put the S in front of the vin. Maybe because they were all built in the same place? Not saying this is or isn't THE original stamp, that would be above my pay grade.

The photo need to be clearer to determine authenticity or a good restoration block. The only item I am a little sceptical about is the stamps. The characters seem correct but usually the gang that hold the stamps is a little sloppy thus the numbers would not be so perfect to each other. Just my .02

If that CON VIN configuration is correct for a Corvette, then one would assume this is supposed to be a 67 427/435. The stampings look good to me, but have to agree with Sam that a clearer picture is necessary to get a good look at the machined surface.

Yes Sam, there is something besides steel out there. Once you have had a midyear it is hard to get it out of your blood, especially a big block. That glass does itch though when you sand it. I like steel too.

The picture is not clear enough to see a broach. I compared to other '67 Corvettes in my picture library and I think the stamps look good. I'm comfortable with the "7" in the VIN and it should have only seven digits in the vin.

That '67 Corvette was built on February 13, 1967; the engine build date is October 13th, 1966, and the suffix indicates an L-71 (427/435hp) with K-19. I'm not comfortable with an engine sitting around at St. Louis for four months before going in a car; it'd be a stretch to call that anywhere near a normal time span. What's the casting number and date?
