You don't have to smack it,just tap it firmly.
I actually cracked off an epoxied one that a magnet did stick to.
Turns out the forger added fine metal shavings to the epoxy.

Was probably easier to find the correct block vs. going through all the 'casting' work!

As I recall the 3970010 casting # was used for a large variety of applications and years. Someone will need to check this but I think that casting # applied to 2 and 4 bolt mains and ranged from the late 60's thru the late 70's.

The 010 block has many different applications in both 2 & 4 bolt configurations, and are fairly plentiful. I think the block started in '69, might be '68 - but I'm pretty sure it's '69+. The casting numbers are generally pretty straight, not sure I've ever seen them crooked like that.

Just took some pics.Don't know were to put the camera card in this old laptop i'm using.Will send them as soon as i get to work in the morning.This is the motor for my 01E 71 Z28 that i just re-freshed.
