Default Re: eBay going to 100% electronic payments only

The main reason Ebay is doing this is because they own Paypal. I would rather use Paypal. I have been using Paypal for over 8 years and have never had a problem. When I signed up for Paypal it was all free and they actually gave you $5 for joining. It's too much trouble to get money orders and a lot of sellers don't like taking checks. As far as the Paypalsucks site posted above, Like with any business, there will always be unhappy people. How many transactions go through Paypal a day without a problem? Let one person have a little trouble and it's all over the net but you never hear about the millions of good transactions. I would be willing to bet that most of the bad transactions that go wrong do so because the one complaining didn't follow all the required steps. I would imagine a lot of companies would love to have the customer service rating that Paypal has.

The reason they are doing it is so the Government knows where the money is coming from and going to, they do not like cash transactions... especially on the scale of ebay...
and on that note I say... NO MORE EBAY! Now why does every transaction need to be centrally tracked? I wonder...

Maybe you could get a visa gift card... like from the mall... and use that? I want to know how one would retain any anonymity from God knows who looking at what an individual is buying or selling... very very Orwellian...

Can't have the people trading amongst themselves they must run transactions through us...

It's not enough that they get a fee off of all of it... now Pay Pal will be receiving more deposits, and I'll bet that Pay Pal is part of a Bank... somewhere or somehow the money is going through a Bank associated with Pay Pal / Ebay and they are making interest and or are using it as investment capital either way it is just another way for the banks to keep transactions going through them.

If I'm not mistaken, Ebay owns paypal.
...ebay collects its listing fee from the seller, then collects its % at the completion of the auction, then paypal takes 3% from the total the seller receives, and finally if the seller is slow to request paypal to transfer the money to their personal bank account it sits in the paypal account ( and guess who's making the interest on that $$?)
and finally when you request your money transfered from your paypal account to your personal account, it takes @ 3days...can you say float?
I think thats it in a nutshell.
Seems like the time would be ripe, as stated earlier, for a "new" motors type auction service...but would it too be forced to be as forthcoming with the government?
I think this is going to hurt Ebay's bottom line in a BIG way.

If there was another on-line auction site available now, I wouldn't look back at Ebay. Let them fail; they deserve it.
They act like GM in the '70s & '80s. And I don't care if they fail either because they deserve it too.
A successful business provides a good service to the customer, and they've BOTH forgotten what the customer wants. They USED to know it, but now they're just riding the wave to the rocks.

Yup...I've just about had it with eBay and Paypal...last year I sold a guy a carb and he paid with Paypal, he filed a complaint with Paypal saying the carb was far from described because it needed to be rebuilt, eventhough in the auction I stated it will need to be rebuilt and it was sold as is....well the guy got his money back and I got the carb back missing some parts...I asked Paypal for a justification as to why they ruled in his favor and never heard back.

Oh here's another good one...I bought an engine block off eBay and paid through Paypal...I take the block to the machine shop to have it looked over because the guy told me that the block has no damage and has never been repaired...well the machine shop finds a sleeve in one cylinder and a crack in the block...the machine shop didn't get to the block right away so it was after the 60 complaint limit that I got the information...so I send eBay and Paypal an email about the situation including the eBay auction number and the Paypal transaction number...and the reply I got from eBay was "We're sorry but this transaction took place outside eBay and we cannot help you"...HA holy crap I was floored...
I only used eBay as a last resort and now I am afraid to do that now.

Paypal works for me I use pay-pal credit and when I receive my item and if by some chance some thing is wrong I just tell pay-pal That I am sending it back AND I AM NOT PAYING
Trust me going that route you never will get screwed trust me it works really good and if every thing is ok I just pay off pay pal credit My bank account does not even come to play I have been doing this for years now and NEVER got screwed
Just this week my wife’s grand Cherokee right front window would not work
The oem”s window regulator has a plastic block that breaks and that ;s the end of it
The dealership want ;s 275.00 for a mopar regulator BUT it still has the same dumb
Plastic block I found a guy on e-bay yesterday that was selling a –re-engineered regulator with metal blocks for 110.00 I paid for it with pay pal credit and just got it tonight I was just saying to my wife before e-bay I would just have to replace this with an crappy oem regulator that would last a year or two and would have to redo it all over again
Now if this was NOT what I wanted I would tell pay pal credit that I am not paying and to make it right BUT this regulator is much better that the oem one and I think that’s the end of that window breaking again

Verne, I'm with you. First, it was NO MORE NEGATIVES for deadbeat Buyer. PLUS...if you POSITIVE FEEDBACK the non-paying SOB, you are not permitted to write anything negative about the experience. A buyer can leave the nicest Positive Feedback in the world, but can screw you bigtime by entering low ratings in the 5-Star Rating System. NOW....you can accept ANY PAYMENT except their 3% PAYPAL system???

I'M DONE with Ebay AND Paypal!
