IMHO....Don't put a thing on them. Rust is correct.Find a nice set and glass bead, tumble them, then leave them to mother nature. That gray cast paint, coating, whatever just looks like a$$ on a resto.... Flame away guy's! Steve |

Good point! If we could all go back to 1968-70 and walk through the Dealership lots, we'd find rust on virtually every exhaust manifold on every new car there.

If you want to keep the fresh casting look and not the Painted look......Use Calyx......available from resto supply houses.......keeps the casting look for quite a while, when it starts to go away, rub some more on and they look fresh again........... Ken

In this day and age, many/most of the high dollar restos are "over restored" and generally that is the way many of the owners, enthusiasts enjoy seeing them. Most people enjoy seeing them the way they came off the end of the assy line, before the rust started........... One method of preventing your manifolds from rusting is to have them coated with a thin "SKIN" of aluminum. There are many companies around the country that do ALUMINUM FLAME SPRAYING. This in turn would be coated with VHT high temp cast blast to acheive the desired cosmetic look. This is not rocket science or one companys secret formula. My .02

I have Calyx on my Chevelle and it's starting to wear thin. Now I'm thinking I'll just let it go for a while and let some of the rust peek through.

I'm having Jerry M do mine right now. The wait is long though. He's busy and there is a 6-8 week turn around time. |
