Dog
Thanks much for posting those shots, had never seen some of those.
My Father in Law,RIP,was at Hicham Field that morning.
One Carrier, I think the USS Enterprize, was out at sea on the 7th, and steamed into Pearl the next morning.
When I was in the Navy abord the USS Kearsarge CVS 33 we were headed to the Gulf Of Tonkin from Long Beach, 1969 ?
During that time they were filming the movie Tora Tora Tora. Our #33 on the tower was painted over, and we did not man the rail that morning, the filght deck was bare of any equipment. As we entered Pearl we were being filmed for what turned out to be about a one second shot in the begining of the movie.
It was really cool to watch, but very somber, there were alot of fires and wrecked stuff burning to make it look like the next morning.
Also in that same movie you will see the USS Yorktown CV 10
acting as the Jap carrier that launched the attack aircraft.
I find it interesting to note that as the years go by that less and less is written it the paper about that day.
To the 5000 + that died that day..RIP..
Mike

When I look at those pictures I have many thoughts...I think of my father who was a Seabee in the Pacific in '45....I think of the countless thousands who gave their lives for our freedom...but most of all I think of the threat that still exists today from those would take that freedom from us if they had the chance...in my mind there is no difference betwwen the Pearl Harbor attack of long ago and the more recent one on 911...on both days Americans awoke to a morning filled with horror and fear....but we came together as a nation to take the fight to the enemy...I only hope our resolve will sustain us through these difficult times....

Thanks for the posting the pics and thanks to all who serve our country...

"lest we forget"
