| Re: Lovely Linda - - [/ QUOTE ] Nice Picture with Mike Sorokin (Surfers Fueler) with Grant Jobe looking on in Envy in the background next to the 55......I remember when they came to the Grove for a Fueler Meet ....they pulled the Fuel Car with the 55 and when they pulled into the Pits they had an Olive Branch taped to the Hood as a Peace offering to the Local Fuelers.....They were Pretty Cool Guy's.......They Came, They Saw, and They Conquered.......As I remember, they were the First or one of the First to Run 98% right out of the can.......On a weekly basis they were always a half of dozen Local Fuelers at The Grove.......They even built a Small Block powered Roller Starter for the Dragsters behind the Starting Line to keep the show moving.........Too Bad Sorokin didn't live long enough to see how the "Sport" evolved Ken

Ro McGonegal wrote a great history of the Surfers in Hot Rod a few years ago. I wish I'd kept those issues. I wish Linda Vaughan would nibble on MY ear like that. Guess I'd have to win a fuel show huh! |

[ QUOTE ] These shots were taken in England in the early eighties! - - - - - [/ QUOTE ] Not trying to be a nitpicker but these shots are actually from the Swedish Drag Festival 1982 when Linda Vaughn was hired as Miss Protector promoting a new brand of carcare products. The productline didn't do well but it wasn't Lindas fault. Protector was sponsor for a FC team that american driver Harlan Thompson was driving for. They were one of the top teams at the time. BTW the other woman in pic #3 is Monika Öberg who was Swedish Top Fuel Champ for many years in the early eighties. This one was taken at the same event: This car had a 426 Hemi in it! Jan |
