Those engines are way cool. In the YouTube clip there are some comments about John Dodds RR with a Merlin engine. I saw that car and heard it when it was at an autoshow in Stockholm. He drove it across Sweden in 3hours on a road that normally would take 6 hours and in the night in March. The week after when going back to England the car caught fire and burned to the ground. I think they built a version 2 of that one.
Some years later when in high school we had such an engine in the schools engineering shop. A couple of guys in my class had a project to run the engine and I helped out some. It was an amazing sound when it came to life. This engine came out of a WWII bomber and had exhaustpipes that were only 10" long. Brings back great memories. Cool car! Jan |
