Default Re: Which distributor???

I would think the distributor would be installed at the time of engine assembly and deck stamping. I can see the assembler walking over to a crate of 1111499 brand new distributors and pulling one out (Wouldn't you like to have that crate now!). Some of the original iron manifold engines I have seen did show red overspray on the distributor housing so they would have been installed before painting and shipment. They also set the timing and ran the engines I believe on Natural Gas before adding the carb and alternator. Just wondering what would be the min time frame before the deck stamp that the dist should be dated? My 70 Z-28 has the original dist and it is dated 0 A 21 but the engine was built early March. I would think a couple of weeks before to 2-3 months prior to the deck stamp date would not be unusual.

I believe the 1112000 dist was for 1970 usage and would think your October 69 built L72 would have the 1111499 dist.
What is shown on your block deck stamp, TXXXXMN?

Paul
