My apologies Howard since that is not the intention of my post. These questions were to ensure I donot purchase a rebodied car for the price of an original.I believe this was the correct form to ask my questions and appreciate Rick taking the time to respond and help me out.
This knowledge is of no value unless you have the understanding, components and ability to put them into place. One thing I have learned in the 30 years I have owned and been around 70 chevelles is the more I have learned from working on them the greater the doubt and the more I look at when purchasing one. |

Sorry my post was misunderstood by you. I didn't mean anything by them other than I wish both of the Rick's could put some of their knowledge in print. But then someone would use it to build a better clone. I know your intentions were pure. Just another example of how words when printed without facial expressions, inflection, and body language are easily misread.

No problem Howard thanks for taking the time to clarify.
On the clone issue I think they have a place since you can customize them and drive them without worrying about harming the value of a genuine SS. The problem comes when they are sold for top dollars to unsuspecting buyers as originals. In my mind the reproduction of cowl tags, build sheets, etc. has to be stopped as a starting point, with heavy fines associated with vin removal or reuse. In Canada we have the ability to get the GM documentation which helps but would not in my situation with the conv. What I am seeing in the last few years is chevelles seem to be falling out of the sky. For example in my small town we had one 70 ls-6 purchased. I knew the owner, drove the car and know exactly where it sits today. However now there are three being put together within 50 miles of me all were basket cases pulled over from the US side and of course matching ls-6. BS. Some friends with original ss cars here are purchasing repo trim rings, hood pin cables, mirrors,ww mouldings etc. for driving and switching them back and forth for shows. That is where we are which is sad but real and it will probally get worse once they repo the chevelle body which is not far off. Joe |
