Default WARNING....Check your garage door spring's!!!!!!!

If you have an older garage, you might want to check the door spring's AND the hook's they're attached to. One of mine broke a couple of week's ago, and I found the spring on top of my hood . Luckily I had a cover on it, and there are only some small mark's in the paint. I hope they'll buff out.

Found the broken hook, but still looking for the eye-end of the spring that broke. Sure do have a lot of open boxes, bucket's, shelve's, etc in the garage a bouncing part could find to disappear in!!!!

When we first moved into the house going back 11-12 years the garage door would squeak pretty bad going up and down. Always thought it needed more grease and some oil that’s all. One day as we're about to Corvette out, the garage door, while ascending, fell off its track, because the squeaking was actually metal on metal contact. The track rusted right through. Luckily, the door did not fall on the cars otherwise the Coupe and an M3 BMW would have been toast. Now, yearly doctor appointments for the garage door insure its prime working condition. Not something to joke about!

I think they have a mechanism at any local Home Depot that its a wire that goes through the spring and prevents it from snapping off and on to your car like mentioned. George

I had the same experience a few years ago and my Camaro got
through it OK. In my case though, the spring broke as soon
as the garage door closed and it scared the crap out of
me. I heard it hit the wall, then bounce into some other
items, then eventually onto the roof of the Camaro. Good
thing I had a cover on it as well. Wonder what it would
have done if it hit me?

Immediately after this incident, I had the newer style coil
springs installed above my garage doors.

Start the search for the missing part, make sure somebody
didn't saw almost all the way through the eye-bolt wanting
you to believe that it was an accident.....

Besides, you might find an NOS L-88 hiding in one of those
boxes. BTW, if you find Jimmy Hoffa, let us know.

Steve

Go to HomeDepot or online. I just looked it up. Its called an Overhead Door Safety Cable for Extension Springs, costs $6.97 says it is an important safety item as it helps prevent injury and property damage in case of extension spring breakage. George

If you ever hear what sounds like a meteorite coming through your attached garage roof - it's your garage door spring letting loose. Scared the heck out of me.

Yea, I heard the "explosion", but was inside the house at the time. Thought one of the "pet's" had knocked a piece of furniture over somewhere, but couldn'd find anything. Didn't discover it until the next morning when the door wouldn't open.

Had this happen to me about 3 years ago. I swear it was like standing in the middle of a pinball machine. I remember just hitting the deck and the hearing pieces ricochet off the walls and ceiling.
