Good question: The factory would bend or roll the lip of the fender in order for the tires to not rub on the fender edge as they turned. |

In the early 80's when I was restoring my 70 Hemi Challenger I ordered NOS front fenders from Chrysler. One side (can't remember which one) the Hemi fender was still available and the other side it wasn't. I had to have the body shop roll the fender lip in on the non-Hemi fender to match the real Hemi fender.

The basis of my comment is that my 70 Hemicuda, which is on 15" wheels, does not have the rolled fenders.(i think) However my comment on the originality of the fenders is based not on replacement metal but that i believe i still have the factory welds inplace for the whole car. In other words those that have seen and or worked on this car have said that it has all its born with metal.? It is going to take me a little while to get answers. As far as Galen goes, i would guess he has pictures and has seen quite a few unrestored original cars. And the comment that i attribute to him is more about some hemicudas, not having the hemi tag. since mine did not get a tag, maybe mine escaped the "keen eyes of the line workers" without the tag and therefore did not get the rolled fenders????? I don;t think i have the rolled lips. I have to talk to the e-body expert who looked at the car in passing. I'll make a post when i get all the info. JOHN |

AAR Cuda's and T\A Challengers have the Hemi fenders but no tag on the inner fender to designate them as such, unless the Trans Am tag serves a similar purpose. I had to get the Hemi fenders for mine when I replaced them back in 81. Got both of them from Chrysler to the tune of about $250 apeice. The full quarters for my pace car were cheaper when I got them from GM 2 years later. Picture of it when it sold about a year and half ago by the second owner after me. |
