| Deja vue....1965

During dinner on Saturday evening, Dan M. made a comment I thought was quite interesting. The "retro" Mustang is the talk of the American musclecar crowd, with examples showing up everywhere, from base cars to all out racecars and everything in between. Ford has once again hit a home run with this car. As in '65, Chevy has the Vette, which has a solid following, but no offering that can compete head to head with the 'Stang. Back then, Chevy was slow to respond, giving Ford and the Mustang a 2 year head start in the pony car market. My question is, how long will Chevy/GM have to play catch up this time?

We were talking about the same thing Saturday night at the Lombard cruise. We must have seen a dozen if not more late model Mustangs with superchargers etc. Instead of a Mustang competitor, GM/Chevy develops the SSR. A high $ limited production vehicle. I don't think that GM and their marketing people have a clue.

[ QUOTE ] My question is, how long will Chevy/GM have to play catch up this time? [/ QUOTE ] If the powers that be at GM don't pull there head out of their arses, they/we won't have to worry about it. They have been behind too many years lately. |

[ QUOTE ] I don't think that GM and their marketing people have a clue. [/ QUOTE ] Pretty much the same sentiments in a conversation I had this morning. One of the engineers here at work has a '69 427 Corvette and has been a die-hard GM supporter his whole life. Like most of us, he swore he would never drive a Ford. He just ordered a new Mustang. GM needs to open the window and take a look at the world outside.

I wonder how many Z/28's, and 427 camaros would sell if they brought back the 69 body style with improved handling and suspension. Throw in a new super tuned 302 fuel injected 500 horse or 427 LS-7 motors which would in fact be cheaper to buy than an actual 69's and I would bet my house they could not make these fast enough...You do not need to be a marketing genius to figure that out. Imagine Pontiac coming out with a copy of the 69 trans-am rag top?

I was just at MIS this past weekend.Chevrolet had the GM version of the PTCruiser on hand, the HHR.Not a bad looking vehicle, but as we've seen,a few years late to the party.Bring it out after the market is already soaked with that style vehicle.Thats smart. Why are our[GM]profits going down when we spend so much $$$ on new car development? Cars that nobody wants. Its not rocket science is it? Kendall

He had been GM-head his entire life owning only a 2003 50th Ann Vette and 1996 Impala SS with 200 miles other then his Ponchos... He just took delivery of a 2005 Mustang GT. Nice car I might ad!

I am sometimes embarrassed to be sitting in the same room as my other brand car buddies when a Chevrolet commercial comes on. Chevrolet really need to start paying attention. |
