Kind of a "tweener"......keep it as is or probably spend some serious bucks to get it up to a very nice driver status. Shouldn't the front grill be all black in color? Was there such a thing as a "Hurst package" as noted in the ad? How would that appear on a buildsheet? Is that the correct shifter & knob?

Anyone know what the white (black vinyl top) 70Z went for at the recent Mecum auction in IL?

Shouldnt the trim tag say Z28? or was that just Norwood cars?

Just Norwood Z's

and the grille question. The plastic that's square will only be black. The trim is chrome. The same goes for a non RS grille. The original grilles were black plastic all the way through. If you broke a piece off, you would see black and not silver. All grilles ordered from GM parts came silver and would need to be painted black for the Z28.

I'm learning here as well.....back to the carburetor, in looking at the add'l pix with this ad it shows a closeup of the carb and the numbers seem to be correct for a 780 cfm for that year/model/engine/trans. Are we sure about the protecto plate interpretation.....maybe the dealer simply put the wrong cfm wording in the ad?

COPO427 - should the vertical piece in the center of the grill be the same color as the car?

70 Z's were all 780 cfm secondary vacuum carbs. No double pumpers were used on the 70 Z28's. The list and part #'s are correct for a 4-spd 70 Z28. The ad is incorrect on the 850 DP.

The centre of the grille should be body coloured.
See this pic I took at a Camaro show. It's an original owner, original paint low mi 70 Z28. And before it's asked, the front spoiler wasn't available until 1971.

Just a note on the POP carb code. The 69 RS/SS I did up years ago was all numbers matching, etc. and the POP was correct except for the carb code. I actually sent a letter to Jerry McNeish with a copy of the POP and he essentially said he has record of an occasional error on those carb codes so it is not out of the question to have a mistake in that area.

Don, did the POP have the "A" "B" or "C" at the end of the trans code designating an M-20, 21, or 22? That is what I think is unusual about this particular POP.

You are correct - unless the 1970 is COPO 9796 and mid June through August build.

I'm no expert here but I don't think the center bar on the RS grille should be body colored. I know you say the Camaro in the picture is original owner, etc. but I have never seen a '70 RS Z with a body colored center bar. To further my point that the pictured Camaro isn't 100% correct; check out the headlight trim pieces. They are blacked out which was not original either so I wouldn't use this car as a refernce point for originality.

Stripes for code 26 could be ordered white or black, see http://ca.geocities.com/[email protected]_trim_b.jpg

My POP for my non RS 70 Z28 has a H at the end of my VIN on the first line.
My POP does not specify a A,B or C for M20, M21 or M22. Mine only shows P0E08 which = Muncie, 70, May, 08. And my car is a Norwood car.
