[ QUOTE ]
Scott, I think that alot of people are afraid that they may shoot themselves in the foot with an asking price (seller's remorse, after the second caller says I'd have offered $$$ more than you took). Otherwise, there are alot of people testing the water or trying to get the maximum the market will allow. I agree with you though, it is frustrating. You don't want to insult someone if you offer them a $$$ they consider to be outrageously low, but they don't give you many options if you're interested in what they're selling. ![]() Blair [/ QUOTE ] You bring up all good points. Personally I would never sell anything without setting a Price. Due to the simple fact that most people will not be bothered with playing that silly Game. as for Seller's Remorse, it Happens. My neigbor just sold a Honda his wife had since it was new. it is 7 Years old, He maintained it perfectly and it had 90,000 miles on it. He put it up for Sale at $4500.00 Dollars. the Car sold in 3 Days. Before he put it up for Sale He was hoping to get that much. when it sold so quickly, Now he thinks he underpriced it!! Some people are never happy. what he failed to realize is that demand for Fuel efficient Cars has risen and he probably could have commanded more. But He got what he initially wanted. and as far as the guy who calls after the sale saying how much more he would have paid, "Tough S%^T!" He is sour that he did not catch the ad first. He might Have showed up and been a Chiseler or a Tire Kicker more than likely with that Comment. Right now, I have a Car for Sale. It is advertised with a Price. In my Head I now what will make me Happy. If I get more than that number, I consider it a Bonus. If a Buyer Guesses that Number, then I am Happy and he gets a Bonus! The Key thing to remember as a Buyer or Seller, is to Relax a little. Don't be too anxious. The right Deal will Come along usually when you least expect it. So Be ready when it does .

you hit the nail on the head with your posts. I've been in business 19 years and we price everything we sell. If a customer wants to make an offer after he knows the price, thats fair! But, expecting the buyer to make an offer first is ridiculous! If you don't want to do business that way....then walkaway politely.Advice for what it's worth! When dealing with big ticket items, price it for sale a little higher than what your willing to take....duh! a buyer always feels better about the deal (and more importantly) and himself if you give some to. Who knows what the lowest price the seller would accept? Doesn't matter if buyer feels good! ![]()

I agree, it's a "bonus" if you get more than what you believe you'd be happy with. Set the price where you want and be happy! There really is no such thing as "top dollar" anyway - what if I'd have advertised it there, what if I'd have waited a little longer to sell, what if.........

i agree with 12-bolt's first comment, i have purchased many cars well below asking price. go check out the car, tell them you really like it but do not have the funds and leave your phone #. you never know what is motivating the sale. most memorable was a 78 trans am asking price 4500 firm, i checked out the car, called back next day and told him i couldnt get a loan, when he asked how much i could come up with i only had $1200 cash so a couple of days later he calls back and we strike a deal for $1200 and a .357. i had the $ but just wasnt interested in the car @ $4500. point being, leave your # and let ehm know how much your willing to spend without being insulting.

Could it have been the .357 you were carrying that persuaded him to take an "offer he couldn't refuse?" Nice catch on that Trans Am either way! |

no no, he asked if i had any thing else to throw in on the deal. i had taken the .357 and a shotgun in on trade myself for some cylinder heads. i didnt have a handgun permit @ the time so it just worked out. drove the t/a for a couple of months and was offered $4000 for it (1992)sounded good. really a sharp car though silver with black fire chicken hood black interior, very strong pontiac 400 and seemed like a 4.11 gear, shift kit from hell also. theres plenty more stories, never seemed to keep a car more than 6 months then, always made $.
