From the Chevrolet Power Catalog, CP=6MA13108801, section 6, Mark IV Big Block, page 6-34, Fuel System:

"When installing a Holley four-barrel carburetor, the production sintered bronze fuel filters located inside the fuel inlet nuts should be removed and discarded. Install a single large paper element replaceable filter (part number 854619) between the fuel pump and carburetor. The fuel pressure drop through the sintered bronze filters cannot be detected because they are located after any fuel pressure gauge connection. Clogged fuel filters are frequently responsible for engine failures and poor performance."

In the illustration is pictured an AC inline filter with part number GF-61-P.
