To all who have responded, Thanks for the positive comments. After seeing pictures of some of your cars I appreciate the words more. Hopefully someone will see potential in my car and have the resources to take it to a higher level closer to where some of your vehicles are.

Canadian SS...Can you post or email me a pic of the entire trim tag including the rivets and body and paint fonts on the tag blank? Thanks, Mark.

I might have some interest in this car since it is local to me. Any of the '70 experts care to comment on the car and the trim tag flaws? Are there hidden VINs stamped in the body somewhere on the '70 cars? Anyone have a good shot of a known original L78 trim tag with original rivets that they can post for comparison? If you prefer to PM me, please do so. Thanks for any help that might be provided.

Canadian SS...I saw the rivet pics on your webshots page, but I'd still like to see the "Body" and "PNT" fonts on the top right. Very cool car!

Thanks Canadian SS. I saw the pics that you added, but none show the right side of the tag. It's obvious to everyone that the tag has been removed at some time.
So the question is why? Being a Canadian car, my first thought was rust and the car was sand blasted. However, you show shots of the floors being rust free with the original red primer still on them...so I don't think that this particular body was blasted. Are there any signs of the original color still on the body anywhere?

Then the next thought is why is a Canadian car so clean? So one obviously thinks rebody...and maybe that explains why the tag was replaced??? But it was a BC delivered car, so it could be that clean if it stayed there for most of its life??? Do you know much about the history of the car?

And what about the misalignment of the stampings on the trim tag? I've seen a line or two misaligned by one character, but never anything like yours??? So one thinks repoped tag??? The only way to confirm that it isn't repopped is to compare it to a known original (that I now have), but the shots you have posted do not show enough of the tag blank to make a clear comparison. I'm sure a number of us that are interested in the car and need this info to proceed and make a serious attempt at buying the car. It might be worth your while to take some better photos before the auction ends.

It's a neat car and needs to have this issue cleared up to bring top dollar, but that's your call.

Good luck.

Mark, It is a bit late so I will hold off on the call for tonight. What I do know is that the car was first registered in Ontario in 1985 after being in BC I am not sure how long it was in BC before coming here. I first saw this car in about 91. The original engine was on an engine stand then, and a 71 Monte carlo donor BB was in it. Car was black, paint was poor but car looked solid. The price was $4000.00..I passed due to a 69 rag I had just bought.. I saw it again in 92 or 93. Same owner, it was freshly painted but car was not for sale. I bought it in Aug 03 after keeping tabs on the its location for 10 years. Like I stated this cars body and paint was done early 90s. Previous owner states that all new NOS panels were added due to dents and some rust but that the floor was still in great shape. I am no body man but for a black car it seems very straight. The actual paint is not perfect but it looks good enough for me. Some of the copper paint is still visible on the cowl area as well as other spots. I was not aware it had the original motor until a few months ago. I knew it was the right CKO block but I didnt know the vin was located by the oil filter until reading that this is a possible location to find it.
If this car does not sell then the engine will be removed and another big block will be installed and beat on until I have the time and resources to redo this car right. I guess the first thing to be replaced will be the rivets, hehe.. Sorry to ramble on but hopefully this answers a few questions for you as well as others...
