Default Wheel Weights, anything special or just lead?

OK, Umm... I'm either asking this as a joke or because of a mental disorder -or that I need to be slapped. With the talk of correct steel wheels, lugs and other items that come up, what about the lead wheel weights? Are there any early manufacturers or style of steel clips that are date/era specific? What about the shape of the surface of the weight or the type face changes? Has anyone gotten into this or has it mostly been looked into as far as maintaining the factory maximum weight limit to balance a wheel and tire assembly? Post what you know while I think of how to top this question.

Thanks
