VetteFinderJim, The name DOUG HUGHES sure rings a bell with me. Around 1975 I bought an aluminum front end 62 Siver Belair Bubbletop from a fellow in Phoenix (Hughes???) who delivered it to me in Seattle area. Car also had Fiberglass Front Bumper and I remember Hayden Proffits name alledgedly being tied to cars history. Car had no eng or trans. Before I did much with it, I bought the #27 Alan Green ZL-1 Camaro.....then selling the Bubbletop to ?????? Chuck Sharin

| Re: Z11 Impala ZO-6 CORVETTE BRAKES!! ?

Thanks Vern. You are correct. Most of my knowledge is with road racers and the 427 mystery Mickey Thompson Corvettes. But I know Doug Hughes real well who restored this car. Really neat piece with great history. $175,000 will put you in the driver seat.

Sorry for the delay Chuck. I was at Corvettes at Carlisle for fun and a week visit with eastern relatives. The bubble top car sounds familiar. Doug also restored a 62 cream /fawn Hayden Proffit / Don Nickelson car. Doug was one of the curator's for the MacGrooter collection

[ QUOTE ] FYI.....there's a gentleman in the Midwest that contacted me recently about a white Z11 that changed hands here in Iowa approx. 2 years ago. He indicated he has been working on a book dealing with this model and is trying to trace the history of the remaining known survivors. Perhaps he may visit this board and offer comments. Sounds like a interesting and challenging mission. [/ QUOTE ] Are you referring to the Jack May Z11 car? My friend is currently restoring that car here in Detroit Jack May 1963 Z11 Impala |

Yes, it's a beautiful restoration. I saw the completed chassis on display in Kansas City a few weeks ago at the 348-409 convention. |
