Anyone here is free to correct me, but to the best of my knowledge, no 68's got the GT body modifications, only the engine/drive train performance modifications. I think it may have been mid-production year of 69 before Joel started doing the GT body modifications.

is an orig. motion car one that was converted NEW by joel or could you have brought in your 68 vette in 1969 and had joel convert it? would that constitute a real motion car?

The tach does not show it came with a High Performance 427 if it is original.

I think it is very possible someone took this 68 Vette later to Motion in 69 or even later to have it modified. I wouldn't think anyone would go through that effort today to build what looks like an aged GT Vette needing restoration. If it was done by Motion and can be backed up with documentation, it would be worth more than if it were a ordinary 68 Vette, but less than a Baldwin Motion Vette. Motion Performance is the key to the added value, more so than Baldwin. An regular car sold by Baldwin and not modified by Motion is still a regular car.

Documentation is everything on a Motion car. Motion didn't use that nose in 68 but could have installed it if the car was brought in to the shop after 69. Motion also sold those nose clips in their mail order catalog so could have been installed by anyone.

That is true. I came close to buying a 69 Motion Corvette at Bloomington in 1992, it was a 400 horse blue coupe. It did have a window sticker and was quite a nice car. The window sticker was correct but is showed a dealer from North Carolina. After a bit of research it came out the car was sent to Motion when it was about six months old and I learned that only Baldwin Chevrolet cars are are considered legitimate. This sure was a nice, correct car with many of the modifications.

Tim, you're right when you say that a Vette or Car is only a legit B/M if it originated from Baldwin Chevrolet. But there is also value/significance of other Chev dealer cars modified by Motion Performance. Motion Performance also did other brands such as Pontiac, Olds, even Mopars; that didn't originate from Baldwin.
It is like "Dick Harrell" modifying Chevrolets from Gibb, Bill Allen, Branine, etc; they're all significant because "Harrell" did them and not entirely due to where the car originated from. Although Baldwin does enhance Motion cars value higher by its namesake; all other cars that Joel built at "Motion Performance" still have value/significance because "Motion" built them. |
