Can anyone tell me what the L in 04L trim tag build date stands for? I have heard it may have been a broken die? I have a 69 Z28 VIN# 124379N636886. Trim tag info- 12437NOR309525 TR 723, 57 E PNT, 04L, X33. I have been doing a little research and have noticed that there are body numbers lower than mine listed above with build dates of 05C and 05D.Can anyone tell me why? VIN# in relationship to body tag numbers are confusing as it is but, this has me stumped.

Your 04L would be correct for the last week in April of 1969 and was an incorrect stamp for whatever reason.
Kurt S./CRG verified this for me on a Pace Car not long ago. |

Are you comparing your body number against COPO cars? The COPOs will generally have body #'s out sequence with the VIN when compared to "run of the mill" Camaros.

Having worked in manufacturing my entire career I don't believe it was a broken die or an error. Our relatively small CRG datatbase has 26 04L '69s; they are interspersed with 05A dates.
I believe those bodies were uniquely dated for a reason; a different component or manufacturing process. There are too many for this to have been an error or a tooling problem.

COPO , yes, i was searching through this site to find info on a trim tag with the 04L build date. Checking to see if this question of mine could be answered in a previous post.I did compare my body # with the body # of COPO cars. Were copo cars pulled off to the side and production continued to run? Also, i take it that Vin# were in place before the trim tag. I assumed that the body tag would have been in place before it was assigned a VIN#. I still would like to have 04L question answered. Anyone? Thanks COPO
