Warren
Was that a crack about Wheeling or is there a possibility of a car in a junkyard there? I live near Wheeling. I earlier posted about the $3500 Yenko Camaro sold out of Bellaire (which is now in Chicago I believe) and the shots of the yellow 427 COPO Camaro stored in the garage also in Bellaire which is right across the river from Wheeling.

There is an old junkyard in the area that has what is left of a '69 Camaro that the junkyard owner said originally came with a 427. There is no drivetrain at all nor subframe and the body is totally gone as in rusted out. The car was originally wrecked I believe and has been in the yard for 20-25 years. The yard built lots of high peformance engines over the years and did lots of auto salvage from mid '60's until about'85. Yard is closed as the owner is semi retired. Yard was originally a chicken farm and is way off the beaten path on an old dirt road. I went to see the owner about 5 years ago inquring about brand X parts. We were talking about the "old days" and old stuff and he brought up the info about the Camaro and actually pointed out the car to me
and said "There is a rare one sitting right out there"

Give me more info as I'm going to check into this further.
Dave

I think you will find that the rusted shell you saw in the junk yard has no trim Tag. Does it appear to have been Burnished Brown with a vinyl top ?

Dave, if you will email me your address, I will make a copy of the article on the burnished brown '69 Camaro and send it to you. Warren

Hello Warren
It's been a long time since I've seen the car, and it was overgrown with high weeds at that time. Not sure of the color but thought it was a darker color-thought it was dark blue or dark green or black. The yard is actually in Ohio but directly across the river and within 3-4 miles of Wheeling. Could this have been the same place but used Wheeling as a reference point? There are 6-7, 175 foot long old chicken barns filled with old car parts but moisture/leaking roofs have ruined everything. I'm not talking anything of value but Vega hoods and rearends out of '78 Volares etc etc. The yards is owned by 2 brothers on the family farm who also built and raced stockcars and had quite a booming hipo engine building business back in the '70's. I have stoppped by several times but the gate to get on the property is always closed. The brothers went back to farming as much as I can tell . They do very limited work on the yard but they do bring in a occasional new wreck and rebuild them. Does any of this come up in the article?

my email is [email protected] I would like to see that article.
Thanks

Dave,
If you get back into that yard, get the #'s from it. VIN and cowl if they are there, but it sounds likely they are not. But the partial VIN from the cowl and by the heater box should help to solve this one and give this car a VIN, instead of just a body #.
