figured it out 1/4 20 with a 3/8 head

Pretty sure all the old GM starters I took apart had slotted head screws, 1/4 by 20 holding the solenoid to the starter nose. Not sure when the reduced size (3/8) hex came into use.
I could be wrong; fuzzy memories.

well ---- I have the slotted 1/4 20 screws and the 3/8 headed screws --- not sure which is correct ? does some one know for sure for a 69Z --- dont want to install starter with wrong hardware

my Z has the original starter but not the correct solenoid --- I got a 114458 solenoid and want to use the correct hardware , as some one used 7/16 head bolts on it --- dont think those are correct

got more info --- 4th digit for starter ---7 gets slotted --- 8 gets phillips head
picking fly $hit out of pepper but hey -- thats what we do |
