Is it possible the bar is indeed the correct part but bends were modified during resto/repaint? Of course you need to confirm w/ an actual L78 part to be correct, but comparing yours as immediately above w/ the L34 pics below that 67since67 shared in Post 6 also other from Bruce’s link, it looks like yours may work if flattened and both bends were re-bent at different locations further up, which may position the top adjuster bolt further along in the slot, but it appears to have enough slot length to offer?
Note specifically in the 1’st pic below, how close the upper bend is to the slot, also the second pic angle well shows how far upwards the lower bend is from bottom bolt, then compare where the two bends are w/ yours as pic above.

Pete, I had thought about that possibility but I didn’t want to go ahead and rebend the bracket until I was 100 percent confident it was modified. The thing I’m having a hard time believing was why would anyone modify it? And the original owner removed the smog system early on when he started drag racing it. So unless I can compare this bracket to another 67 L78 car to make sure it’s correct I want to hold off on doing that.
The bracket in the pic you posted above is from a L34 I think and that bracket looks similar but the slot is much longer?
It would be awesome if there was someone on this site that actually had a 67 big block smog car that had the bracket and the pulleys so I can compare and put this to rest.
Really appreciate all the help here

Yes, pics L34 as noted but all I’m saying is, the modifications may solve the immediate problem so you can move on w/ other things, then figure out what’s wrong later/bend it back if necessary?
AIM info as below indicates L35 & L78 used the same bracket # 3921935, also other info indicates it was superseded from 3886109, which may be what you have, AIM link here… https://www.heartbeatcitycamaro.com/...vP44rwX9riH7hK
Keep digging and best of luck!

Pete, yup I have the assembly manual and may have to do what you suggested. Looking at the pic in the manual, it has the short adjustment slot just like I have so I’m pretty convinced it’s the correct bracket.
I will keep digging thank you!

Yes, AIM pic shows short slot but if drawing actually correct, note how close the upper bend is to the slot compared to top bend in yours, which is much further down.
