Why is the guy so attached? He doesn’t have to sell it to you but putting a number like that only creates frustration. Prob not easy but keep a level head don’t make him dislike you and maybe see if you can get somewhere with time. In the meantime I’d be looking for an equal motor to possibly offer as trade plus a little cash on top to get it done.

well, he's not wrong. It would increase the value of your car. The question is, how much? Would the original engine add that kind of value? Probably not. What are original drivetrain Yenkos selling for?

If you are not selling your car, go silent on him.
The motor is worth MORE to YOUR car only. Sounds like the old "how bad do you want it" game. He may be enjoying the game. When it comes up for sale it is a safe bet you will be contacted. Patience is best now as aggression did not work.
