Something happened between Nickey Chev and Dick Harrell in late 66 or early 67.
Harrell and Chevrolet were working on getting the 427 Camaro approved for AHRA Super Stock so they put together a deal with Yenko and Harrell and AHRA in March 1967. AHRA required 50 car minimum. Yenko and Harrell had a special 427 Camaro drag package that included a Scatter shield , traction bars, headers, hi temp plug wires , Tach and gauges, and hood pins. This info is on many of the original work orders. Harrell put together a four car drag racing team sponsored by Yenko and Harrell. This was for 1967 only. |

Here's a great document which provides some clarity to Nickey/Harrell program initiating the 427 Camaro class. Thanks Stefano!

Thanks to Steve for posting the American Hot Rod Association directed to Jim Tice, president of the drag racing association located in Kas City, MO.
Noticing the return date from AHRA to Dick Harrell’s request for the 427 transplants to be included as stock for classification in competition? Another clipping from “Drag World,” by Bruce Young appeared just a few days after, October 14, 1966. Bruce was the PR man of AHRA. |
