This Regal Red 65 Malibu SS Z16 is #1 of 201 built. It came down the line in Baltimore in December of '64 as I believe an SS 327 before being shipped to the Engineering Department to be transformed into a Z16. The other 200 Z16's were all built in Kansas City. The original owner of this car was Tim Hunke. Dave Miner restored this car and had it at the Chevy Vette Fest back in '05 along with 2 other Z16's he owned. Jeff Helms had this car at the show in the Class of 1965 Z16 Invitational.

This Regal Red 65 Malibu SS Z16 was sold new at Clippinger Chevrolet in Covina CA. This car was road tested in the September '65 issue of Popular Hot Rodding. It was then featured in the December '81 issue of Super Chevy when Ron Houk owned it. It was that feature that introduced me to Z16 Malibu's. It was also featured in the June '91 issue of Guide to Muscle Cars when Milt Robson owned it. It is currently part of the Dennis Albaugh Collection.

This Regal Red 65 Malibu SS Z16 belongs to Daniel Gitz. I believe this is the car that was pictured sitting abandoned on a rural property in Dallas GA in the late 80's. The owner had passed away, and his mother wouldn't sell the car. The picture has been on the internet and appeared in Hemmings Muscle Machines at one time. That same picture was in a 3-ring binder displayed with this car, so I am assuming it is the same car.
