1969 Camaro vinyl top trim

I’m in the process of restoring a 69 Camaro with a vinyl top. The original trim has been polished and I need to repaint the black paint in the center. Every time I paint it and peel the masking tape off, it takes some paint with it. Does anyone have a method or type of paint that left a clean straight line and doesn’t take the paint off when peeling the tape off??

you could try pin strip tape -- or black finger nail polish -- or dont tape and go over with soft cloth and laquer thinner after painting which would probably be the best

I bet part of the issue is that it was polished. Originally, it was plated.

I think you need to establish some "tooth' to the painted surface.

Suggestion #1 Mask and use a narrow Dremel 3m scotchbrite wheel and abrade the exposed painted surface. Remask and refinish.
Suggestion #2 Could be the angle you re "pulling" on the masking, It need to be pulled at 180 degrees, dont pull "UP" lifting paint.
Suggestion #3 Timing, more cure time required before masking removal.

Or less time. Pull the tape while the paint is still wet so it doesn't stick to the tape.

Just did mine. Use blue pin stripe tape. 2 med.thin coats and walk away. Etch primer first

I've had good results by spraying black and then using a sponge with lacquer thinner to wipe off the high surfaces
