1965 Chevrolet Corvette NCRS Top Flight / NCRS 5 Star Bowtie Award / Bloomington Gold Benchmark Award. NCRS Shipping Data Report documents the car's final assembly date of November 30th, 1964. Originally delivered to Parmount Chevrolet in Downey, CA. It is assumed the car was the subject of a dealer trade. The car was later sold to it's first retail customer Mr. Alan P. Torq on December 15th, 1964 at Felix Chevrolet in Los Angeles, CA. Mr. Torq (who preferred to go by the name of Pete) was a resident of Huntington Beach, CA.
Pete was an aircraft technician by trade. That is evident by his meticulous maintenance and notes that he kept during his ownership. Pete also enjoyed periodically drag racing the car, turning mid to high 13's at Lion's Dragstrip (pic and photocopies of time slips contained in gallery). In 1970, Pete relocated to Parkville, MO. Pete would drive the 65 back and forth to California with some regularity, thus explaining the mileage of 89k miles. In 1990, Pete drove the 65 to Bloomington Gold for the first inaugural "Survivor" judging. The car was proudly displayed as being shown by it's original owner. Pete's wife Irene, documented the occasion on video tape (now saved on DVD). Pete was presented his Survivor award by none other than Larry Shinoda. The award, literature, and other associated documents accompany the car (including the t-shirt provided to the judging participants). Pete retained ownership of the car until 2005. The car was purchased by then NCRS National Judging Chairman Roy Sinor. Roy Sinor placed the car in his personal collection. Roy performed some sympathetic cleaning, along with the installation of an NOS GM off road exhaust system. In all actuality, the car required very little due to Pete's fastidious maintenance. Due to some personal circumstances, Roy reluctantly sold the car in 2008. In a conversation with Roy, he maintains he would still own the car today if it were not for having to keep his priorities in focus. Longtime NCRS member and exhibitor Kevin D. of Fountain Hills, AZ purchased the car in 2008 from Roy. Kevin then prepared the car for NCRS judging (requiring very little). During the duration of Kevin's ownership, the 65 has received the NCRS Top Flight award twice, and also the NCRS Bowtie Award. The NCRS Bowtie Award is a program to promote the preservation and recognition, of original and unrestored cars. Click the link below for a detailed explanation. https://www.ncrs.org/services/judging-awards.php#BOWTIE In 2016, Kevin sold the car to Mr. Frank R. of St. Helena, CA. Frank kept the car in his personal collection until the fall of 2023. Today, the car retains it's entire born with drivetrain, original VIN stamped fuel injection unit, original paint, original interior, original body panels, original window glass (with the exception of the properly dated windshield), jack, jack handle, spare tire lock, keys, glove compartment literature. Other secondary dated components include the starter, alternator, distributor, voltage regulator, horns, wheels, spare tire / wheel assy., etc.,etc. The car has recently been serviced. Services include changing of all fluids, rebuild of the original fuel injection unit, new and properly dated spark plug wires, set valve lash, rebuild of original harmonic balancer, new clutch, new front brake pads, and installation of modern circuit board in original T.I. amplifier. The car is smooth and tight. The car brakes straight. The clutch is smooth on engagement. The transmission upshifts and downshifts effortlessly. The rear diff is quiet and tight. It is my opinion there is responsibility to maintain the originality and integrity of a car such as this. This is one of the best (if not THE best) unrestored C2 Corvette's to pass through my hands. A car like this is not for everyone. But, if you are an aficionado of unrestored, authentic, documented, and no excuse collector cars, then this is one worth your consideration. ----One of the best in the world as far as I am concerned! Just amazing that it didn't gain a set of side pipes. I know they sound good but it's been proven that they make less HP. Just my random thoughts but I think Tim has priced his 65 VERY fairly!....Bill S
