I did; I recognize the name.

A Corvair towing a GTO? I’m no physicist but that seems iffy…

We lived to tell about it.

Actually - I was just thinking about that.

Back then the trip to the track would have been all two lane roads (no freeways) and about 20 to 90 miles one way. Probably 50-55 mph max. I recall that the road to Tri City dragway was dirt (paved in one direction, dirt going the other way).

Not like today where we are going all over the eastern 1/3 of the United States at freeway speeds (and above).

I wouldn't flat tow across town these days, with all the crazies and people not paying attention on the road. Imagine how one feels riding a motorcycle, or driving your classic, and then imagine a second one hooked together with no brakes on it.

I flat towed the Chevelle for a little bit. I had a wire harness that plugged in to the front of the car so that pressing the truck brakes actuated the brake lights on the car.

I still have the old tow bar and chains. I can set it up at shows but transport the cars separately and then hook up once I get there.

Question: how many carburetors in this picture?

Answer: Seven. Four on the Corvair and three on the GTO.

Thought I would add a few photos. Some old some not so much but they were not digital when taken. First couple of photos of my father's first car which it ran into an overpass when he fell asleep headed home from work. Next few are of a 68 CB L30 M20 (sag) Camaro and a L34 '70 SS. Then the 1st of 2 pace cars and mixed in was a black (originally Ash Gold with gold deluxe) L34 68. and finally a few of the 1st pace car finished along with the 2nd being finished. The one photo of the pace car on the trailer was back in mid to late 90's at the Camaro Nationals down in ATL IIRC. Lastly was a '76 SS Nova and some random photos of the 1st pacer again.

Pictures of my X77 Z28 a previous owner sent me. I believe they are from the late 80's. The Z still looks basically the same today but has a lot less paint. The car cover wasn't very kind to the car over the years.
