My uncle John’s brand new Heavy Chevy Chevelle. 6 months later in the junkyard after a street race gone bad. He survived amazingly. He was my hero and where my car passion came from. Rob

Stretching the definition of muscle car a bit (model year wise) but my first car and daily driver back then.
Dad ordered this car for my mom to drive. She had it four years and I got it after she was done with it. I have been racing this same car for 46 years. First time out it went 14.90's. Best pass on the original motor was 12.20. It now regularly goes 9.80's at 136 mph. K https://www.motortrend.com/features/...hevy-chevelle/ https://www.nmcadigital.com/blog/kei...g-classes/2148

So, just to be clear, you want old photographs correct? That's why you mentioned "vintage" and "scanned", because you don't really need pics of old muscle cars taken yesterday, or last month, etc,...etc... but actual photos taken with a camera, back in the day, right?

First one is late '73, car was a month old. Second picture is original owner with a buddy, a year or 2 later.
You may notice the Z28 emblems added to the front fender in the 2nd picture. The OO did that after he removed the stripes.

We kept it at 11.80's for a long time (trying to avoid putting a roll bar in it). Once we put the bar in it was on to 10.70's and 10.50's before the next big jump. K

Wow, that Heavy Chevy Chevelle was really messed up. I'm glad your uncle made it through OK.

Did you know Elmo Hodges and Deb from the proving grounds? Debbie 18 at the time prowled the streets in her L88 70 or 71 stick Camaro. |
