 Prior to 1964 you could get high performance engines in cars. 413, 406, 409 with dual quads or tri-power. But those weren't "Muscle Cars." You had to have a hood treatment, Redline tires, chrome exhaust tips, lots of badges and most important - a catchy name. GTO, 442, Super Sport, GT and R/T. It was ALL about marketing. You're father bought an Impala. You wanted a Camaro. 1967 was a watershed year for Muscle Cars. More new models were added - more than any other year prior to or after. Sure - a 1966 L72 427 Biscayne could probably beat 90% of all the Muscle Cars on the Street. Who cared? It looked like Mom's Grocery Getter! And that's why BB full size cars didn't sell. |
