Muncie Transmission Tag Identification
Trying to confirm the transmission tag on a 1969 Camaro SS350
M20 4spd. I've seen the numbers 3946797 for RPO M20. Could anyone confirm that this is correct? Thanks in advance. Sal

So the list in that post is from the AIM of course, so you have to assume the part numbers were based on the "standard" rear gear ratio (as well as the actual trans model).
I think the "standard" rear gear for a manual SS/LM1 Camaro (3950356 - L48, L34, L35 & LM1 (assume Muncie M-20) was BS 3:31. Which explains the grouped engines with one trans number. Of course if you ordered a non-standard rear gear, the trans model may change Sal, with your SS350 BS 3.31 gear I think you need the 3950356 tag. I have an SS 350 with BS as well and need the same tag

From the 1969 power train chart:
LM1 std axle w/4-speed was 3.31. 3.07, 3.55 and 3.73 optional. L48 std axle w/4-speed was 3.31. 3.07, 3.55, 3.73 and 4.10 [exc. ac] optional. L35 std axle w/4-speed was 3.07. 2.73 and 3.31 optional. L34 std axle w/M20 4-speed w/o ac was 3.31. 3.07, 3.55, 3.73 optional. L34 std axle w/M20 4-speed w/ac was 3.07. 2.73, 3.31, 3.73 optional. L34 std axle w/M21 4-speed was 3.31. 3.55, 3.73 and 4.10 [ex.ac] optional.

Hi guys thanks again for all the info. I saw that reproduction tags were available
on ebay thru The Parts Place. Unfortunately #3950356 was NOT available on their ebay page. Yes ebay does have original tags but I prefer a clean new one. I sent the parts place an email to see if their vendor can provide one. The embossed font numbers on the originals appear to be more bold than the reproduction tags, but the conditions of them aren't great. Sal
