Y55 Battery

I just finished making my repop version of the Y55 battery today. I had made one just over a year ago for my 68 Z28.

It looks pretty good and started with a R59 Topper, so I had to flip flop the + and the - on the topper for the Y55 battery has the reverse polarity. The positive is on the fender side vs the radiator side.

Had to re-paint the caps yellow and drill the center of the lettered cap to install a glass eye as the originals.

Probably the Y77 side post battery on a 04C build, but not 100% sure. Maybe someone with more knowledge on batteries can chime in. Sorry....Dave

Dave, can I ask how you flipped the + and - and what you used for the glass eye? I've got an 02D car with the R59 topper and would be fun to do a similar project.

Matt,
I used the left over of an original cap the I had to cut off to originally use. However, the cap fit poorly (loose), so I used the repop cap that fit tight and installed the left over of the original Delco cap that I had cut.

I made the + with a plastic repair kit and simply modified the original + into a -

I did a similar conversion but Never Figured out the Pos / Neg Symbols swap, but was not concerned since the installed cable obscures it visually. Often at Swap meets you can find existing Yellow caps including the DELCO eye-cap for sale, I had spares Originals from leftover Hemmings purchased NOS batteries and harvested the Red & Yellow series Caps for future use. You have to Cut down the Eye optic center plastic eye shaft.

The Label was altered via a "Brother" label makers & some 1/2 tape w/white lettering, strategically trimmed and applied.
