| Ansen valve covers

I'm trying to make an old set of Ansen valve covers look good again, but it just isn't working out. After a lot of cleaning, sanding, brushing and polishing they still look bad. I'm thinking of sand blasting them and running them that way. I had a set of these many years ago on my '67 Chevelle SS and I blasted and painted them flat black. They looked pretty good for a kid that didn't have any money. What do you thing about the satin aluminum look for these valve covers? The tunnel ram in this picture was also polished and I had it blasted.

Freddie, I glass bead-blasted these vintage Holley's - I liked the way they turned out.

I got them blasted and I think they look all right. I'm still not completely happy with them, but they will do, for now anyway.

I bead blasted a pair years ago and then hit them with some 00 steel wool and a green Scotch Brite pad for a couple of hours. They turned out really nice and the after-work gave them a clean rubbed down look that was less porous looking.

Has anyone tried soda blasting or vapour blasting. Some like the finish of vapour blasting on aluminum as it appears more original than glass bead.

Pete, this is the same engine that's been in my car since the late '80s. It's a bowtie block with a 6223 crank. A few years ago I swapped the LS6 rods and TRWs for a set of Molnar rods and Diamond pistons. It's a solid flat tappet cam with around .605 lift. The heads are 077 aluminum. If you look close you can see the snowflake above the number 2 exhaust port. I have been running a Holley strip dominator with a 850, but decided to go for a different look this year. I don't expect it to make any more power this way, but I've always wanted to look at the back of a tunnel ram while driving down the road. I'm using a new AutoGear N24 transmission this year, and the rear end is a 9 inch. I haven't updated this in a while, but most of it is here. https://www.yenko.net/forum/showthre...ight=gear+head
